Jackson-path Olin’s to collegiate football is continuing:
Jackson-Olin football may be best known for producing Mr. Football David Palmer in the early 1990s, but coach Tim Vakakes is determined to make the Mustangs more than a one-trick pony.
T.D. Moultry signed with Auburn two years ago, defensive lineman Coynis Miller signed with Auburn last year, and linebacker Vontae Bentley signed with Clemson and is the Mustangs’ headliner for 2019.

“We’ve said it many times at Jackson-Olin, and I’ll repeat it until I’m blue in the face,” Vakakes said today at Birmingham City Schools’ district-wide signing day ceremony at the Birmingham Crossplex.
“The concept that our kids – not just at Jackson-Olin, but everyone in here – had to leave our side of town to go to high school for blessings, success, and chances has been blasted out of the water by every kid in this room.”
That is true for all of our communities. Plural, “He went on. “There is no need to remove children from their communities in search of opportunity and blessings, as every child in this room demonstrates. Keep that juice coming in here.

“One thing we’ve stated at Jackson-Olin several times, and I’ll say it until I’m blue in the face,” Vakakes said today at Birmingham City Schools’ district-wide signing day event at the Birmingham Crossplex.

End of defense Jammal Abrams has also committed to UAB.
Abrams, a three-star prospect, committed to Florida as a linebacker but reopened his candidacy after gaining weight and switching to the defensive line.
“I’ll say it was difficult because I had to adjust to a different position, both offensively and defensively,” Abrams said. “Aside from that, it was a fantastic season.” I had a great time doing it with my family, my mother, and Coach V.”
Abrams was enticed by UAB’s tough defensive approach and its closeness to home.
“It’s an amazing sensation,” Abrams added. “You may have a terrific connection with the team and coaches, both on and off the field, and then you go down the road to visit your mother, father, and grandma.”
“It’s fantastic since I’ll be playing on the end and in the buck position,” he says “He stated. “It’ll feel good going off the edge on defense, and maybe I’ll get several sacks.”
A.J. Toney to Samford, Chris Hall to Miles, Mike McFarland to Murray State, Antwon Williams to New Mexico Military, Davidson Robertson to Miles, and Teveon Pickens to Georgia Military are among Jackson-other Olin’s signees.

The Jackson-Olin college pipeline does not look to be slowing down any time soon. Quindarrius Robinson, a 2020 linebacker, just de-committed from Auburn and is attracting interest from Power 5 colleges.
“Keep working hard, get high marks, and trust the process,” Bentley said. “God has a plan for you, and he has a plan for everyone.” The elder men paved the road for us to look up to them and see what they accomplished.
The majority of the boys aspire to play college football, so being around those great athletes and seeing what they accomplished to go to the next level paved the way for us.”
