Bryce Young, Alabama’s standout quarterback, suffered a right shoulder injury early in the second quarter of Saturday’s game against No. 20 Arkansas.
With the No. 2 Crimson Tide leading 14-0 on the road, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner landed awkwardly outside the pocket while being tackled by his ankles as he attempted to toss the ball away.
Young came from the locker room at the start of the second half after missing the majority of the second quarter. Though he was labeled as doubtful to return, he was never on the field as backup Jalen Milroe led the Tide to a 49-26 victory over the Razorbacks.
After the game, Alabama coach Nick Saban described Young’s injury as a sprained shoulder, but he did not elaborate on Young’s future condition.
Young stayed in for the following play after collapsing, but he grimaced on the subsequent throw and made his way to the medical tent.
He did not return for the following series, as Milroy led Alabama on two swift touchdown drives to put the visitors up 28-0.

Milroe completed 3 of 5 throws for 62 yards and a touchdown before halftime, in addition to his running score; he opened the second half for the Tide but only passed for 3 yards on four subsequent tries.
Milroy ran 77 yards down the field on a broken play to set up a touchdown, then running back Jahmyr Gibbs took over the game with 72 and 76-yard touchdown runs in the fourth quarter.

Young flung his helmet in anger, headed to the medical tent, and then to the locker room. His parents abandoned their seats in the stadium to accompany him.
Young was able to return to the field, and Alabama coach Nick Saban stated that the injury isn’t significant.
“I think he’ll be OK,” Saban remarked. “He had no significant injuries.” We didn’t believe he’d be able to play today since he didn’t seem to have much steam tossing the ball.
“He’s had them [injuries] before, and he responds rather well after a few days. So we’ll just have to see how it goes and play it day by day.”
Young, a potential first-round choice in next year’s NFL draft, completed 7 of 13 throws for 173 yards, one touchdown, and one interception prior to the injury. Despite being on the sideline and dressed in full gear throughout the second half, he did not take a snap.
Jalen Milroe, who came off the bench, completed four of nine throws for 65 yards and a score. On six carries, he ran for 91 yards and a score.
“Just be calm, calm, cool, and collected,” Young instructed Milroe. Simply return to your previous level of training.”
“We have an incredible relationship,” Milroe remarked.
When asked how the offense altered with Milroe on the field, Saban joked, “I was going to phone Jimbo afterward and tell him,” alluding to Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher.
Alabama will play Texas A&M in Tuscaloosa on Saturday. Last season, the Aggies defeated the Crimson Tide in College Station.
“This country has just one Bryce Young, and he’s a fantastic player,” Saban added. “Jalen can do what he does, and we believe in him.” We are optimistic about Ty Simpson’s growth as his backup. But Bryce should be OK.

Milroe faced third-and-15 at his own 20 with a 28-23 lead due to a mix of defensive blunders, special teams nightmares, and a couple of slow drives. Alabama had just been penalized for one of its ten penalties, and Razorback Stadium felt as if it were collapsing on Alabama’s sideline.
Milroe then did nothing except modify everything.
His 77-yard run ignited a 21-3 fourth-quarter blitz that turned the final scoreboard into a liar.
From an Alabama blowout to an Arkansas comeback, Milroe and Gibbs added a third act to this game with three runs of 70 yards or more, setting the pattern for Alabama’s 16-game win streak over Arkansas.
Gibbs had just informed Milroe that everyone was rooting for him and that he was “made for this” moment.
“Jalen’s got us all pumped,” Gibbs added. “He was generally composed. He knew just what to do. He understood what he was doing.”
